A cross connect is a direct, physical connection between two hardware assets inside a data center, typically run through a meet-me room. Cross connects offer lower latency, stronger security, and more predictable performance than internet-based connections. Instead of routing traffic between sites over the public internet, DCI uses dedicated circuits that provide. The term DCI (Data Center Interconnect) is relevant in all scenarios where different levels of connectivity are required between two or more data center locations in order to provide flexibility for deploying applications and resiliency schemes. These are fiber and copper cross connects.
